Fruit Logistica 5th – 7th February 2020, Berlin, Germany
The Economic Development Board will lead the participation of eight operators in Fruit Logistica 2020 from 5th to 7th February 2020 with a view to maintain and consolidate presence in European markets, explore new market opportunities, familiarize with innovative agriculture technologies and develop new businesses.
FRUIT LOGISTICA is the world’s leading international trade fair for fresh produce marketing. Held annually in Berlin, Germany, it brings together more than 3,200 exhibitors and over 78,000 trade visitors from 135 countries and therefore represents an ideal platform to promote the whole array of Mauritian exotic fruits to influential buyers, traders and distributors as it attracts a broad spectrum of companies, representing all the steps involved in the value chain, from production to point of sale. Fruit Logistica offers visitors an opportunity to gain an overview of emerging trends, products and technologies in the industry, and forms an excellent platform for establishing and strengthening international business contacts.
In line with government’s policy to enhance exports, EDB is supporting exporters of fresh fruits and vegetables to penetrate new markets. This initiative has helped the emergence of a strong export-oriented fresh produce sector over the years. In 2018, fresh produce exports reached Rs 197 million, consisting mainly of Victoria pineapples (Rs 63 million), litchis (Rs 84 million), avocados (Rs 911,105), and other exotic fruits such as passion fruits, jack fruit, breadfruit. Europe remains the most important export market for Mauritian fresh produce and exports to Europe have increased from Rs 133 million in 2017 to Rs 163 million in 2018.
